Item #1104 Cathay. Ezra Pound.

London: Elkin Mathews, 1915. First edition. [32] pp. Original heavy tan string-sewn wrappers. Spine darkened and fragile with some slight chipping at the lower edge, slight soiling to front wrapper. Pound’s enormously important collection of “translations,” drawn from the notebooks of Ernest Fenollosa. Eliot shrewdly noted that Pound was “the inventor of Chinese poetry for our time.” Pound’s interpretations “altered the feel of the language and set the pattern of cadence for modern verse” as George Steiner has remarked. One of 1000 copies printed. Gallup A9. Item #1104
