New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1966. First edition. Hardcover. 212 pp. Red boards over black cloth backstrip, spine lettered in red and silver, with the dust jacket. Minor rubbing to head and tail of spine and corners; the jacket shows heavier rubbing with a couple of small chips and tears and an inch chip at the top edge of the front panel, affecting "The" in the title. The book was the basis for the 1971 film which was Al Pacino's first starring feature film role, with a screenplay by Joan Didion and John Gregory Dunne. Scarce, especially the first edition.
