Oracles et Spectacles

Paris: Georges Visat, 1967. First edition. 45 pp. One of 120 copies on Rives (of a total edition of 135 copies), with an extra suite of engravings, as issued, on Japan pearlescent and Japan Hosekawa. Frontispiece by Hans Bellmer and eight etchings by Zürn, each signed in pencil, as are the prints in the extra suite. Introduction by Patrick Waldberg, postscript by Hans Bellmer, each given in French and German. Fourteen anagrammatic poems by Zürn. A brief foreword by the publisher Georges Visat notes that the book was born of a friendship- while Zürn was hospitalized at Maison Blanche, she expressed the desire to create engravings, for which Visat provided materials.

The custom design binding is by Daniel-Henri Mercher, in full tan morocco with a tooled criss-cross pattern and interlocking tinted “h” and “u” letterforms on the front and rear boards. In a custom chemise and slipcase. A gorgeous production. Item #2271
