Cover illustration by Sidney Nolan, also reproduced in black and white as the frontispiece. A variant with an unillustrated, lettered cover was also produced the same year. The Australian bookseller Douglas Stewart notes that "it is estimated 400 copies with the colour wrappers were produced and that they were intended for the overseas market (Cowley, Des.
