Exhibition of Recent Paintings, 1936. April 20-May 17, 1937
New York: An American Place, 1937. Two sheets, folded twice to form [8] pp. Fine copy.
Although functionally an exhibition catalogue- the titles of 21 paintings are listed on the rear wrapper- this item is almost exclusively made up of a five-page essay by Hartley entitled “On the Subject of Nativeness- a Tribute to Maine,” accompanied by a poem “Signing family papers.” This was Hartley’s last show at one of Stieglitz’s galleries; he had had his first solo exhibit at Stieglitz’s 291 in 1909, and further shows at the Anderson Galleries, the Intimate Gallery, and here at An American Place. OCLC locates six copies. Item #2575
